Google TV allows you to configure a specific profile for your children that includes parental control. In this article, we will guide you to add a kids profile to Google TV.

Google TV devices, like the Chromecast with Google TV, are great for displaying content to watch, but not all of that content is family-friendly. Fortunately, you can set up a specific profile for your children that includes parental controls.

How to add a kids profile to Google TV

You can have multiple profiles for everyone in your household on Google TV devices. Kids profiles have a ton of additional controls, including bedtime, viewing limits, app monitoring, and more.

Creating a children’s profile will add them as members to your Google family. It is not the same as creating a Kids profile from scratch, as you will not assign them a Gmail address.

Easy Steps to add a kids profile to Google TV

Step 1: On the Google TV home screen, select your profile icon in the upper right corner.

Step 2: In the menu, select your account.

Step 3: Now choose “Add a child” to continue.

Step 4: You will then be greeted with a friendly introductory screen. Select “Start”.

Step 5: If you’ve previously added a children’s account to your Google family, you’ll see them listed here. You can select them, “Add another child” or “Add a child”.

Step 6: The next screen will ask for your child’s name. You can also put a generic “Kids” tag here if you want this to be a shared profile. Select “Next” when done.

Step 7: Now it will ask you the age of your child. Again, you don’t have to be specific here if you don’t want to be. Select “Next” when done.

Step 8: You will now see some Terms of Service and parental consent information from Google. Select “OK” after you have reviewed everything and accepted.

Step 9: The last step in creating the profile is “parental verification”. Choose a phone number where the verification code will be sent, and then select “Submit.”

Step 10: After receiving it, enter the code on the next screen and select “Next”.

The profile will now be created on your Google TV device, which should only take a couple of minutes. Once you’re done, the first thing you’ll be asked to do is Select Applications. Click “Next” to continue.

You will be presented with a row of suggested children’s apps and a row of apps from your account. Select the applications you want to have in the profile and then click “Install and continue”.

Next, Google TV will ask you if you want to configure any of the other parental controls. There are several things you can do here:

  • Screen Time: Set daily time limits for viewing or adding a bedtime.
  • Profile lock: lock the Children profile so that they cannot exit it.
  • Family Library – Select ratings for TV shows and movies that can be shared with your purchases.
  • Theme: Choose a fun theme for the Kids profile.

Once you’ve explored these options, select “Finish setup.”

Lastly, you will see a reminder to set the home screen and log into any app that may need it. Select “Let’s go.”

You are now looking at the Kids profile home screen, it is much simpler than normal profiles and lacks all content recommendations.
